Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player won his first trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a challenging period, winning just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden title following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt since that period of that year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has won 21 championships at twenty-one different events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my children together, so to get a trophy is particularly special," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, comprising in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and regular outbursts on court had led commentators to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.

But the player has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, supported by an enhanced service.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his first tour victory, took control to push for a third set.

Moutet defended four early-game opportunities in a competitive third set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, he clinched victory with a point at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
